Thomson Launches Grass Valley Ignite Integrated Production System Delivering First and Most Complete Link between News and Control Rooms
Unique Single Workflow, Multi-Distribution Model Supports Efficient Launch of New Digital Channels and Generating New Revenue Streams
With one of the broadest lines of production and digital news production technologies available, Thomson provides turnkey workflows for signal processing and media distribution in cable, direct-to-home, satellite, telecommunications, and terrestrial television operations. Today, media leaders are looking to capitalize on those workflows to drive additional revenue.
The Ignite line embodies this approach, letting users efficiently produce and air live news and entertainment programming with only one or two operators. They can then leverage this single-workflow approach to distribute their high-value content across new channels that can include the Internet today and interactive TV and data services transmitted to 3G wireless devices in the future.

New dMAX initiative targets digital workflows
In addition to the Ignite line, Thomson today also launched the Grass Valley dMAX™ (digital Media Asset Maximization) initiative to help media leaders worldwide capitalize on their investment in digital content creation.
Through the initiative, Thomson will offer a single-supplier integration partner for digital workflow success: one that can deliver software and middleware frameworks, critical applications, best-in-class products, and expert system integration and support services to create complete, optimized, end-to-end workflows.
Today, no company touches more points of today's digital production workflows—or has more experience integrating them—than Thomson. Through the dMAX initiative it expects workflow-based design and integration to be a high-growth component of its overall success.
Supporting a wide array of multi-format news, sports, and feature production workflows, Thomson's end-to-end solution includes applications for ingest, browse, nonlinear editing, media storage, news playback, and integrated production systems.
Ignite: scalable, integrated, multi-distribution production systems
The scalable Ignite line includes everything customers need for digital production, including remotely controlled, broadcast-quality Grass Valley CameraMan® and LDK 300 cameras, Grass Valley KayakDD™ digital video production switcher, the Grass Valley Concerto™ routing switcher, analog and digital audio mixing/processing, and Thomson's advanced automation control software. It also supports third-party devices and all major newsroom computer systems.
Pairing an Ignite system with the KayakDD switcher gives broadcasters the choice of producing some programs in an automated mode and others using a manual approach with the optional Kayak control panel. Existing KayakDD users can take advantage of the Ignite system's capability through an upgrade kit from Thomson.
The Ignite system is also integrated with the Grass Valley
For repurposing high-value content across through multiple distribution channels, the Ignite system supports the Grass Valley WebSTATION™ application for live or on-demand Web viewing. Using the application, you can post enhanced content segments to the Web in as little as 15 minutes after a live program.
The product line includes Ignite 1000, 2000, 3000, and 4000 base models with modular options to tailor the system to specific customer I/O requirements.
New advanced automation software adds next-generation control
The new Grass Valley advanced automation software for the Ignite system features a highly intuitive, feature-rich graphical user interface and scalable applications to help automate a user's production process.
Among the key features of the advanced automation software is the new rundown list that replicates a station's news segment order. During the rundown monitoring process, at any point in time as changes are made, the software can generate alerts allowing the director to take those modifications and add them to the show quickly. The rundown list then automatically updates with the new files and readied for air execution, providing improved producer and director communications, faster show pacing, and error-free productions.
Pricing and Availability
The Ignite system is available in packages scaling from 1 M/E to 4 M/E systems. The starting price for a basic 1 M/E Ignite solution without CameraMan cameras is €96,300. The system is scheduled to be available beginning in June of 2005.
