Falcon IP/Complete deploys Thomson's end to end IPTV systems with two local telecoms operators in US

Las Vegas (National Association of Broadcasters Convention — Booths SL106/SL2120) April 12, 2008 — Falcon IP/Complete, a leading US telecommunications integrator has deployed Thomson's (Euronext 18453; NYSE: TMS) end-to-end IPTV solutions with two new customers — Adak, a local telecom operator in Alaska and Magazine Telephone Company, a local exchange operator in Arkansas.

The new deployments by Falcon feature end to end IPTV solutions from Thomson including NetProcessors and ViBE MPEG-4 encoders from its video head end range, SmartVision service management platforms with video on demand servers and IP set top boxes and DSL gateways for consumer premises.

"These new customer wins, each with their own unique needs and architectures, illustrate the flexibility of the Thomson system and how Falcon can offer and integrate cost effective, turnkey solutions for competitive IPTV and triple play packages with high quality of service even in remote areas" said Patrick Montliaud, Senior Vice President of Thomson's Integration and Networks Solutions business unit, within the Systems division.

There are estimated to be over 2000 local exchange carriers in the US and many are realizing the need to offer double and triple play services to their end customer to prevent churn.

Adak Telephone

Adak Telephone, an operator in a small local community in Alaska with its own fibre to the home network deployed its new IPTV service in November 2007. Falcon was able to install the entire system in just 10 days without disrupting existing services. When commercially launched, Adak's IPTV system will provide 189 channels of programming to its customers compared to the 29 existing channels previously available on its analogue network.

Magazine Telephone Company

Magazine Telephone Company, a local telecom operator in Arkansas, needed an IPTV bird to box solution to quickly launch IPTV services over its existing telephone lines. It has selected the Falcon/Thomson system to help them provide their customers with full triple play packages of telephony, high speed internet and television over one existing telephone line. Over the next few months, Magazine Telephone Company will be extending the new service to all their customers, including in those in remote rural locations.

"We are offering a radical new approach for deployment of IPTV. We are so confident that this offering will be attractive to tier two and tier three telcos that we have already ordered 25 full IPTV systems from Thomson, said Donald R. Cook, Falcon IP's President." Thomson is now introducing a second set-top-box, the DBI8500 with PVR capabilities which makes the solution that much more attractive.
