Estonian Public Broadcasting Company Places Order For Its First HD OB Van with Grass Valley
The order for this sophisticated HD OB Van comes at a time when the Baltic market is undergoing the migration to live HD production for sports and entertainment. Planned for delivery in June 2009, the van will be built in the Thomson Systems Group Competence Centre for OB Vans in Weiterstadt, Germany.
On board, the OB Van features a full complement of Grass Valley™ equipment and systems. There are eight Grass Valley LDK 4000 mkII HD cameras (pre-cabled for up to 16 cameras), a Kayak™ HD 2.5 M/E production switcher and an additional Kayak HD 1 M/E panel, a high-performance 96x224 Trinix™ HD router controlled by Grass Valley Jupiter router control software; and numerous powerful signal conversion modules from the Grass Valley GeckoFlex™ product line.

Grass Valley has continued to maintain its leadership in OB Van production around the world by offering customers flexible system designs and equipment solutions that are affordable and efficient. ERR's new OB Van will be used to produce sporting events and television shows. The services of Thomson's Professional Services and Integration team and the entire Grass Valley product line enables production companies like ERR to get a fast return on its investment.
The project involves the full spectrum of services offered by the Professional Services and Integration business unit, including the design, installation, and commissioning of the new OB Van and a companion auxiliary van. Measuring 16.35 metres long by 2.5 metres wide and 4 metres high (with a unique, patented full height expandable sidewall to one side) the new OB unit will house three operational areas: a main production room with slow-motion controls and a networked graphics area; a 2nd production control area combined with visions control and a digital audio room.
Hannu Pro, the distributor for Grass Valley products in the Baltic region, worked with ERR to provide the Grass Valley HD solutions used for the project.
