Dutch Minute to Win It Slows Down with Grass Valley

San Francisco, California, March 14, 2011Minute to Win It, the hit game show first seen on NBC, is even better in Dutch—thanks to great slow-motion replays using the Grass Valley™ LDK 8300 Super SloMo camera. Netherlands broadcaster RTL added the "PowerCam" to the production, with a handheld LDK 8300, to get audiences even closer to the action.

Contestants in the show are given a series of challenges, to be accomplished in 60 seconds, which use objects that are commonly available around the house. Production facilities for the Dutch version are provided by outside broadcast specialist Cinevideogroup, which is part of the Euromedia Group. It suggested to producers that they use the LDK 8300 camera, which shoots at 150 frames a second, allowing the action to be slowed down three times on replay while still retaining perfectly smooth high definition quality.

"We started using the LDK 8300 in studio projects back in 2009 on the popular show So You Think You Can Dance," said Eelco Brink, Technical Producer of Cinevideogroup. "Apart from the excellent slo-mo capabilities the camera is very light and sensitive and works great in a typical entertainment studio environment. And because it uses the same optics and front end signal processing as the Grass Valley LDK 8000 Elite used on the show, the pictures match perfectly."

"Super Slo-Mo is now an essential part of any sports coverage, but its use is getting more and more popular in entertainment, as Cinevideogroup demonstrates on Minute to Win It," said Jeff Rosica, Executive Vice President of Grass Valley. "It adds production values, showing the audience the contestants and their reactions close up and in slow motion, helping the show top the ratings."

The Grass Valley LDK 8300 can operate at 2X or 3X normal speeds for slow-motion. It also provides a normal speed output for live use, allowing it to be used as a main camera alongside LDK 8000 Elite cameras with perfect matching. Its unique AnyLight™ functionality virtually eliminates flicker from artificial lighting which would otherwise be impossibly distracting in slow-motion replays.
