Grass Valley Supports "Keep The Sierra Green" Program to Promote Eco-Friendly Practices

San Francisco, Calif., June 13, 2011 — Keep the Sierra Green (KSG) is a voluntary green business program in northern California that provides a forum in which local businesses can promote their sustainable practices. This year, KSG has publicly recognized Grass Valley™ for its commitment to eco-friendly practices while increasing awareness in the communities it's located in.

Preserving the environment is central to Grass Valley's mission, as across its many locations in the US and around the world. Grass Valley establishes and maintains sound environmental, health, and safety management practices to meet or exceed all applicable government requirements wherever the company operates.

Chief among these environmental, health, and safety objectives are a singular focus on developing, manufacturing, and marketing products that are safe for their intended use, that are efficient in their use of energy, and that can be reused, recycled, or disposed of in an environmentally sound manner.

"Grass Valley is committed to conducting our business in a manner that is friendly to the environment, saves resources, and is protective from an environmental standpoint of the well being of our employees, customers, and the communities we are a part of worldwide," said Dave Perillo, Senior Vice President of Global Operations for Grass Valley. "We believe that working in partnership with suppliers, governments, communities, and industry groups are critical to our success in these areas."

In 2009, Grass Valley diverted 95.25 tons of packing material, paper, and wood waste; 271 pounds of batteries; 400 pounds of light tubes; 75 tons of scrap metal and surplus equipment; and 25 tons of electronic scrap from landfills. This represented a total savings of almost $30,000 and revenue close to $100,000. In 2010, the company achieved similar results, and in 2011 the company is initiating new programs and applying for more stringent environmental certifications.
