Grass Valley Provides Edge for SMPTE Australia Conference
San Francisco, Calif., July 11, 2011 — The SMPTE Australia 2011 Conference and Exhibition, will feature a comprehensive variety of industry experts and new technology presentations that look to help broadcasters do their job faster and more efficiently. The Australia Section of the Society of Motion Picture & Television Engineers (SMPTE) will host the popular conference July 19-22 at the Sydney Exhibition Centre, in Darling Harbour.
Among the various technical presentations at the conference are two papers written and presented by Bob Edge, Manager of Standards and Technology at Grass Valley™. One paper describes the evolution of machine control including Service Oriented Architectures (SOA), and the other spotlights ways to deploy advanced file-based workflows using the latest generation of file formats (MXF, GXF, QuickTime, etc.).
Edge's "Moving Up The Protocol Stack" provides an overview of control systems including SOAs and an overview of a new Application Framework-based approach that hides the complexity of device control and focuses on the user workflow. This will include an overview of Grass Valley's new STRATUS™ media workflow application suite as an example of advanced architectures.
The other technical session, entitled "Why Are File-Based Workflows So Difficult?" addresses how workflows are only part of an IT-based TV production system. Areas such as news production are now highly integrated, offering shorter production times and operational savings compared to traditional workflows. Matching the user's workflow requirements to the capabilities of available devices is one of a few topics that Edge will discuss.
SMPTE Australia 2011 is the premier event for the motion imaging and television engineering industries in the South East Asia region.
