Grass Valley Live Production Technologies Helps Orchestrate 54th Annual Grammy Telecast
San Francisco, Calif. February 15, 2012 — Grass Valley™ live production technologies were central to the broadcast of this year's 54th Annual Grammy® Awards telecast on Sunday, February 12 (at the Staples Center in Los Angeles), which was produced live in the 1080i high-definition (HD) format by veteran mobile production company NEP Broadcasting for CBS and the E! Entertainment Television channel. NEP Broadcasting, based in Pittsburgh, Penn. has used Grass Valley technologies for many years to bring home all of the musical performances and pageantry of the world renowned Grammys.
NEP's Denali Summit HD truck was on-site to handle the main awards broadcast on CBS while its ND4 rig was used to cover the Red Carpet portion of the event for E!. Both trucks carry a Grass Valley Kalypso™ HD Video Production Center switcher, a Trinix (192x160 and 160x128, respectively) HD-SDI video router, and a wide variety of signal processing modules from the Grass Valley GeckoFlex™ product line to switch and manage the dozens of camera and other feeds that make up the Grammy telecast.
The Grammy Awards telecast is presented by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS).
