EDIUS Cut And Win Competition Winners

Grass Valley™ has announced the winners of its highly successful “Cut And Win” contest, in which editors using EDIUS® real-time editing software were encouraged to produce a commercial on the features and capabilities of EDIUS and compete for a chance to win thousands of dollars’ worth of production gear.

The competition attracted over 400,000 page impressions and over 200 registrations from 52 different countries.

Winner: Frank Aldana (Philippines)
Frank Aldana

Francisco 'TheFrank' Aldana is a freelance cutter based in the Philippines. He's been editing for 18 years and his career has spanned the transition from analog/linear to digital/non-linear, taking in hybrid editing along the way.

"Back in 2005 I hand-built my own editing rig around a DVStorm XA and EDIUS (3.0) - It's been my weapon of choice ever since," said Frank. "It's fast and fluid, and it's responsiveness reminds me of old-school linear edit controllers. It works, plain and simple."

"I've cut just about everything from 10-second TV spots to 2-hour narrative films. And yes, I made my Cut-And-Win competition entry with EDIUS. More specifically, I recorded and cleaned up my voice-over on EDIUS, comp'ed the kinetic typography with After Effects, rendered to HQ with an alpha channel, imported it back to EDIUS where I fine-tuned the timing with Time-remap, added some color correction and a teeny tiny bit of soft-focus. Voila!"

Why does he call himself 'TheFrank?'

"There are over 33 Frank Aldanas on Facebook. I just wanted to set myself apart from the other (garden variety) Frank Aldanas..."
