Las Vegas (National Association of Broadcasters Convention – Booth# SL106) April 9, 2011 — Grass Valley™ K2 Summit™ media servers are at the heart of a fully redundant storage area network (SAN) being deployed by CTV, Canada's No. 1 television network. The SAN will allow network staff to share HD content both internally and with other CTV stations across the country. The new servers are currently being installed at CTV's downtown facility in Toronto and will be fully operational and on-air in late March.
CTV currently operates numerous Grass Valley K2 SANs (as well as the Grass Valley Trinix™ HD video router) at its Toronto and Calgary locations. The addition of the new K2 Summit servers in Toronto gives CTV staff a common platform with which to establish unlimited and fully compatible two-way file transfers with 24/7 reliability.
"The system design we've implemented allows our staff to work faster and more efficiently, which remains our core strategy across our network facilities," said Allan Morris, Senior Vice President of Engineering, Operations and IT at CTV. "We looked at all of the available technologies on the market and chose Grass Valley because we knew how reliable its servers are from our past experiences. With the addition of the K2 Summit servers, we now have a solid content distribution platform with proven stability and solid growth potential through advancements in technology."
As part of this significant new order, Grass Valley is supplying CTV with a comprehensive service and support package that includes system integration, commissioning, training, and a multi-year service level agreement (SLA) whereby local Grass Valley engineers will maintain the equipment on site as necessary.
"The K2 Summit is quickly becoming the new workhorse of the industry for cost-effective content delivery across all types of content production and delivery facilities," said Jeff Rosica, Executive Vice President at Grass Valley. "CTV continues to expand its services while strengthening its business model, and we're proud to be a part of that."
Grass Valley has expanded its popular K2 Summit media client server line to include a new series of highly affordable models that target a variety of demanding play-to-air and other content distribution applications. The series is made up of five new models: two shared storage clients that connect to a K2 SAN via iSCSI and three integrated storage servers.
