Grass Valley Helps DutchView Go "Green"

Amsterdam, The Netherlands (IBC — Stand 1.D11), September 08, 2011 — DutchView Multicam, the Netherlands all-inclusive multimedia company, has signed a five-year exclusive vendor contract with Grass Valley™. This contract includes delivery of the latest state-of-the art Grass Valley cameras, switchers, routers, and servers over the five year term of the agreement.

DutchView is also working with Grass Valley on two new "green" outside broadcast trucks as part of DutchView's broader plan to develop a sustainable broadcast infrastructure. This green initiative is the latest stage in a long relationship between DutchView and Grass Valley, and establishes a plan for the future.

The new trucks will be equipped with the latest Grass Valley 3G Transmission system, which allows DutchView to use their existing inventory of triax cables, which not only protects its investment, but minimizes waste. The trucks themselves will produce reduced emissions by up to 40%, the truck body is made from sustainable materials that reduce the amount of energy needed for heating and cooling by 30%, and all of the furnishings in the truck are made only from sustainable and recycled materials.

Grass Valley has been pursuing a policy of environmental stewardship for some years, both in the way its products are designed and manufactured and in their power consumption during operation. The DutchView trucks will be equipped with Grass Valley's newest production switcher—the Karrera™ Video Production Center—and the Trinix™ NXT router which are both 25 to 40% more energy efficient than comparable equipment of similar size. The LDK 8000 Elite camera using Grass Valley 3G Transmission saves approximately 20% in weight and delivers better low light performance, which saves significantly on lighting requirements.

"Energy efficiency and sustainability is a big issue, and we see it as our responsibility to take a leading roll in what we call 'sustainable broadcasting'," said Nico Roest, CEO of DutchView. "We are setting tough environmental targets as we deliver the most innovative products and services to our clients, in the greenest way possible. We have worked with Grass Valley to achieve these goals."

DutchView is a market leader in radio, television, and Internet production in the Netherlands. It operates 14 studios in Amsterdam and Hilversum, and a current fleet of seven outside broadcast units. It provides production services for a large number of production companies, the Dutch public broadcasters, and RTL, with a particular emphasis on sports and entertainment.

"Broadcast companies around the world are waking up to their environmental responsibilities," said Jeff Rosica, Executive Vice President at Grass Valley. "We are building that environmental responsibility into every product we develop. Our Kayenne™ and new Karrera production switchers far exceed the energy efficiency of their competitors and they are highly compact, which equates directly to save weight and reduced fuel costs for an outside broadcast unit. It is great to be working with DutchView on a concentrated program of energy efficient production."

The two new trucks are being built by Dutch systems integrator D&MS, also a long-time Grass Valley partner. Each will be equipped with Grass Valley production switchers, Trinix NXT routers with an integrated Trinix Multiviewer, and LDK 8000 Elite WorldCam HD cameras featuring the 3G Transmission system. The first truck will be on the road in December, with the second following by the middle of next year.
