Brazil's TV Globo affiliate EPTV Returns to Grass Valley for Significant HD Expansion

Amsterdam, The Netherlands (IBC — Stand 1.D11), September 08, 2011 — Brazil's Emissoras Pioneiras de Televisão (EPTV), an affiliate of the TV Globo Network covering the São Paulo State and Minas Gerais State regions, has expanded its live sports and studio production capabilities with the recent purchase of a significant quantity of high-definition production equipment and systems from Grass Valley™. The broadcaster has also entered into a multi-year Service Level Agreement to protect the equipment and ensure continued support.

Set to be fully operational by the end of the year, a new HD news studio, OB van, and portable ENG camera package will include a wide selection of Grass Valley HD cameras, production switchers, routers, master control and branding systems, as well as signal processing gear.

Among the products selected are 12 LDK 8000 Elite HD, two LDK 8300 Super SloMo and 12 LDK 3000 HD cameras; one Kayak™ HD production switcher (4.5 M/E) and two Kayak HD production switchers (1.5 M/E); four K2 Dyno™ Replay Systems; two Concerto™ Series and one Trinix™ NXT HD routers with a Trinix Multiviewer – under Jupiter control; two Maestro master control and branding systems; and GeckoFlex™ modular products.

"We continue to work with Grass Valley because they are one of the few companies that can provide and support a complete, fully integrated production and distribution package to meet our individual and always changing requirements," said Jose Francisco Valencia, Technical Director at EPTV. "After years of having good experiences with Grass Valley technologies, and the great local support staff they have, we feel there's no better solution or technology partner for us."

EPTV will use the new HD OB van to cover live sports events (mainly soccer) in the region to their partners. The network will use its new HD production studio to produce news segments and sports highlight shows. It will also add to its existing master control capabilities with the installation of two new Maestro master control systems, which will allow it to deliver a full slate of programs that include both digital HDTV and analog channels with an end-to-end Grass Valley solution.

"Understanding that image quality and production efficiency is critical, EPTV is one of the pioneering broadcasters in the region and has always challenged us to develop systems that they then use in a myriad of ways," said Jeff Rosica, Executive Vice President of Grass Valley. "That it continues to come back to Grass Valley for its technology needs is proof or our success. We're pleased to support EPTV's growing organization and look forward to continuing our very close working relationship."

EPTV is a long time Grass Valley customer, having already purchased and installed several LDK Series cameras, including the LDK 300 and LDK 4000 HD cameras, Kayak DD/HD switchers, Concerto routers, Gecko Flex Series modular products, EDIUS® editing workstations, K2 Dyno Replay Systems, K2 media servers, and Maestro master control.
