Amsterdam, The Netherlands (IBC — Stand 1.D11), September 08, 2011 — Mobile Television Group (MTVG), a veteran production company based in Denver, Colo. that operates a fleet of more than two-dozen high-definition (HD) mobile production trucks, has unveiled its latest rig complete with a full complement of live production equipment from Grass Valley™. Over the past few years, MTVG has standardized most of its fleet on Grass Valley's multiformat HD technologies.
MTVG's latest 53-foot production truck, 29HDX, was officially unveiled at a recent baseball game in Denver between Major League Baseball's Colorado Rockies and L.A. Dodgers. The truck boasts 10 LDK 8000 Elite cameras, a Kayenne™ Video Production Center, and a Trinix™ NXT (256x256) video router—MTVG's largest router matrix deployment. The cameras feature Grass Valley's new 3G Triax camera transmission system, which allows MTVG crews to easily work at any stadium pre-wired with triax cable – even in 1080p60. Most venues in the U.S. feature triax infrastructures.
"We like Grass Valley equipment because of its ability to acquire and produce high-quality images in every HD format for our diverse live sports and entertainment client base," said Philip Garvin, President of Colorado Studio and Owner/Manager of Mobile Television Group. "The LDK 8000 Elite HD cameras, in particular, with the new 3G Triax base station are even better than the regular LDK 8000 cameras. Our crews are very excited to be using the new truck and thus far it has performed flawlessly."
With mobile units located in most major markets in the US, MTVG helps produce thousands of live sports and entertainment events across the country. In addition to Kayenne the company also uses Grass Valley Kalypso™ and Kayak™ production switchers, as well as LDK 6000 and LDK 8000 cameras on board its other trucks.
"Grass Valley has built its reputation in live sports production because of customers like Mobile Television Group, which helps us understand what is needed in the field and how best to implement it," said Jeff Rosica, Executive Vice President of Grass Valley. "MTVG is exactly the type of company that will benefit most from the new 3G Transmission system, and we are happy to be a part of their new truck."
3G Transmission from Grass Valley is the company's third-generation camera transmission system, capable of carrying uncompromised 1080p50/60 signals over either triax or fiber. This allows any choice of transmission cable to carry either uncompromised 1080i, 720p or 1080p50/60 video, while being prepared for multiplexed pairs of 720p or 1080i HD signals for stereoscopic 3D applications. As a bonus, 3G Transmission extends the range of triax coverage by 25%, to a conservative minimum of 4,921 feet (1,500m), getting cameras to the positions where they need to be.
In addition to the camera's digital video output, 3G Transmission carries four digital audio channels back to the base station as two AES/EBU pairs or as an embedded signal within the digital video. Two independent video returns can be sent to the camera for operator monitoring and a stage-floor monitor at the same time. 3G Transmission also provides crystal clear talkback and an expanded data channel for camera control, communication with robotics, real time graphical overlay processing, or remote alignment of a stereoscopic rig.
