Amsterdam, The Netherlands (IBC — Stand 1.D11), September 08, 2011 — Multimedios TV and Milenio TV, the third largest network in Mexico, has upgraded its studio and news production operations with a full complement of multiformat, file-based equipment from Grass Valley™. The new systems, being implemented with existing Grass Valley and other third-party technology, are being installed at the network's two production and playout facilities in Monterrey and Mexico City.
Part of the new purchase supports an upgrade of existing Grass Valley Aurora™ news editing platform from standard- to high-definition capability. To complete the HD migration across six production studios, the network has added a new Aurora HD suite of tools, Grass Valley LDK 3000 HD cameras, a Kayak™ HD video production switcher, and a series of SD/HD signal processing modules from the GeckoFlex™ product line. Two of those studios are now on the air, while the rest will come online in the next few months.
Multimedios TV also purchased a multiyear Service Level Agreement in order to keep the network and systems up and running.
"The Aurora platform gives us a fully integrated, file-based workflow that will make our staff more productive and get content to air faster," said Guillermo Franco Gallegos, General Director of Operations at Multimedios TV. "We have been a long time user of Grass Valley products and appreciate the reliability, new features, and the technological openness of their products, which allows us to integrate it with other products in our facilities. We could not have completed this upgrade without the help of Grass Valley's local support team. Their system design and ability to meet our deadlines really made the difference."
The Grass Valley Aurora networked news production platform includes a number of Final Cut Pro workstations that have been tightly integrated into the shared storage network. This allows Grass Valley Aurora editors and FCP editors to work side-by-side, sharing the same assets to streamline the workflow.
"Multimedios TV is a fine example of a great customer that was able to leverage the Grass Valley SD technology they had, and expand it to accommodate HD production," said Jeff Rosica, Executive Vice President of Grass Valley. "Our systems feature a very open architecture and we've also helped them implement a number of third-party systems, which are now working seamlessly with our Aurora news production platform. Multimedios TV wanted to make the most of their previous investment and that's what they have done."
Multimedios TV already owns a variety of Grass Valley systems, including SD versions of the K2 media server, Profile® XP playout servers, M-Series™ iDDRs, Indigo™ AV Mixers, and a Zodiak™ SD video production switcher.
