Amsterdam, The Netherlands (IBC — Stand 1.D11), September 08, 2011 — Grass Valley™ announced today a new addition to the growing STORM™ line of EDIUS® I/O units. Available in different configurations for notebooks and desktop PCs, the Grass Valley STORM™ Mobile offers a variety of video and audio inputs and outputs for use with EDIUS 6 nonlinear editing software—catering to a broad spectrum of editors ranging from "prosumers" working on personal projects at home to broadcast/professional users editing on location.

To better adapt to the growing demand for editing in the field, STORM Mobile allows notebook PC users editing with EDIUS to input a wide variety of video as well as audio sources. If needed, full HD live video playout— during editing as well as playback—is available. This replaces the functionality of the popular HDSTORM™ product line.

STORM Mobile is available in a number of different hardware configurations, supporting mobile PC solutions, though its ExpressCard/34 interface- to allow for a smooth editing workflow in the field- as well as desktop PCs via a PCI Express card interface. STORM Mobile is available as an external unit, or as an internal unit, mounted in a 5-inch drive bay space.

The unit comes with I/O ports supporting HDMI (with 8-channel embedded audio), component video, S-Video, as well as composite video. STORM Mobile also supports hardware down-conversion of HD video to SD, allowing editors to use affordable SD video monitors in the field. Power to the unit is provided through either the PCIe host adapter or an external AC adapter (included in the laptop package).

Pricing and Availability
The Grass Valley STORM Mobile will begin shipping worldwide in September 2011 for $1,099 to $1,499 – depending upon product configuration.
