Amsterdam, The Netherlands (IBC — Stand 1.D11), September 08, 2011 — Grass Valley™ launched a new 3G version of its Concerto™ Series router at NAB2011, and CME ordered one immediately. The new router has been installed at Nova TV Czech in Prague, Czech Republic.
Central European Media Enterprises (CME), is an American group, part owned by Time Warner, which owns leading commercial television stations in a number of markets including Czech Republic ,Slovakia, Romania, Bulgaria, Slovenia, and Croatia. The stations are all technology leaders, with Nova TV Czech being the first television station in Europe to introduce HD news in 2007, based on the Grass Valley Aurora™ live production system and K2 media server.
"As a popular broadcaster, we have to continue to invest in technology to maintain the quality and flexibility of our output," said Josef Uher, Technical Director of Nova TV Czech . "We need to plan for 3 Gb/s infrastructures in the future, and the availability of the new 3G Concerto router at NAB this year fit in precisely. It sits perfectly as part of our Grass Valley infrastructure alongside an existing Trinix™ NXT router and Gecko™ modular products."
The broadcaster also uses a Grass Valley Trinix NXT router at the center of its broadcast infrastructure. Continuing expansion meant it needed more switching capability, and the architecture suggested a standalone router, linked to the same control system. The new 3G version of the Concerto fulfilled all requirements: it delivered the additional functionality, and paved the way for 3 Gb/s operation in the near future, it was simple to integrate and was a cost-effective capital purchase.
"The ability to move 1080p or stereo 3D signals simply around a facility is clearly on the minds of every systems engineer today," said Jeff Rosica, Executive Vice President at Grass Valley. "Our flagship Trinix router has always been 3G ready, but we knew that some applications needed a smaller switch so we brought the same technology to the Concerto. That Nova TV Czech ordered one practically off the stand at NAB is a clear indication that we are meeting the real needs of broadcasters worldwide."
Video Audio Systemy, the Grass Valley distributor and integrator in the Czech Republic, negotiated the order and is managing the installation.
