Amsterdam, The Netherlands (IBC — Stand 1.D11), September 08, 2011 — Viditech, part of The Facility House Broadcast Partners, a supplier of outside broadcast (OB) services in the Netherlands, has become the first customer of the new Grass Valley™ Trinix™ Multiviewer. A Trinix NXT router that includes the multiviewer will be installed in Viditech's new OBV5 truck, which is due to be operational this month.
Launched earlier this year, and part of Grass Valley's family of Trinix NXT multiformat digital routing switchers, the multiviewer is fully integrated into the router and therefore eliminates the need for additional cabling and other hardware, making it more reliable than other multiviewer systems. It supports infrastructures up to 3 Gb/s while providing up to eight SDI multiviewer monitor outputs per card—including the ability to monitor audio for each source.
"It was important for us to ensure that our new OB truck would not only be technically up-to-date but also sustainable," said Jan de Pijper, CEO of Viditech. "We've relied on Grass Valley's equipment for our trucks for a long time, so after reviewing the technical benefits coupled with the fact that it saves rack space, weight, and energy, the Trinix Multiviewer was the obvious choice."
Currently being built by Dutch system integrator D&MS, the new OB truck will be built around 12 Grass Valley LDK 8000 cameras, as well as a Kayak™ HD video switcher.
"We are delighted that Viditech has once again chosen Grass Valley for yet another OB truck, said Jeff Rosica, Executive Vice President at Grass Valley. "By eliminating secondary, external components and connections which consume valuable space, the Trinix Multiviewer is a superb solution for monitoring in OB trucks as well as in studios."
With less than 75 watts typical power consumption for eight outputs, the Trinix NXT Multiviewer features two MADI inputs for discrete AES audio monitoring in addition to embedded audio monitoring capabilities from any source routed to the multiviewer; sophisticated graphics, tally (TSL and Image Video), and UMD support; powerful signal monitoring, status, and alarming functions; and support for Grass Valley control systems.
Each multiviewer board includes 32 scalers with all inputs and outputs on each board supporting all video standards (from 480i to 1080p). By using the card's cascade capability, the system can also support up to 128 images on a single output without rescaling the cascaded signals. Users can also set up a single image to span multiple monitors, creating stunning video cubes.
