Amsterdam, The Netherlands (IBC — Stand 1.D11), September 08, 2011 — Belgian-based international outside broadcast services provider Alfacam, has placed a significant order with Grass Valley™ for a unique and flexible solution to enable it to capture live sporting events in crystal-clear HD resolutions and instantly play them out at variable speeds for critical analysis during fast-paced events. The comprehensive order is the largest live HD production systems purchase to date in Europe for Grass Valley.
To meet this goal, Grass Valley will outfit Alfacam's fleet of OB production trucks with 30 high-definition (HD) K2 Dyno™ Replay Systems, 24 LDK 8000 Elite HD cameras, and four HD wireless camera systems that will be used in the Middle East and Europe.
The deal will enable users to give viewers unique analysis through the highest quality slow-motion replays. This will be provided by the K2 Dyno Replay Systems, LDK 8000 cameras (running on triax base stations) and wireless HD transmission systems installed on board Alfacam's most sophisticated HD OB vans.
The Grass Valley K2 Dyno Relay System offers Alfacam's users better operational control, streamlined production workflows and greater productivity. It consists of the K2 Dyno Replay Controller coupled with the K2 Summit™ Production Client server. It is ideally suited for HD sports production trucks and shared storage production facilities.
The K2 Dyno Replay Controller also offers an intuitive user interface that combines tactile interfaces (buttons, T-bar, Jog knob) with a touch screen display, makingit easy to learn and use, highly versatile and extremely responsive. Its software allows users to directly edit highlights and playlists (with auxiliary audio tracks) in real-time. True file-based workflow is enabled through intuitive file management (both on the import and export side), tight K2 Dyno Production Assistant application integration via Grass Valley's "Fusion" networking initiative, SAN compatibility, and native file support.
Most of the K2 Dyno Replay Systems will initially be delivered to Saudi Arabia, where Alfacam has received a contract to cover all the matches of the first football league there. Another six K2 Dyno systems will be sent to Belgium for use on live sports production of Europa League football games and other sports throughout the region.
"We like what Grass Valley has done with its K2 Dyno slow-motion replay system as it is easy to use and produces the types of excellent quality replays our viewers and clients have come to expect," said Gabriël Fehervari, CEO of Alfacam. "Throughout the years, Grass Valley has been a very supportive and reliable partner of Alfacam and this new order continues the relationship that we have come to rely on to ensure the success of our live production projects."
To allow non-technical staff and producers to be immediately comfortable completing sophisticated production tasks, Grass Valley is to supply six seats of K2 Dyno Production Assistant (PA) software.
With the Grass Valley K2 Dyno PA, users can create metadata grids off-line in advance of an event to tag critical information, such as names and relevant event action types. These grids can be easily distributed and imported as XML data on a USB drive to all Grass Valley K2 Dyno Replay Controller systems. Clips can be given text names, while metadata can be added during the event along with ratings and icons. In addition, all metadata created can be saved along with the content and re-used for different purposes. Content stored on a network can be viewed and aggregated into different bin types and sent to removable storage or network destinations using automated rules.
"This order reflects the increasing acceptance of the K2 Dyno Replay System across a region that has previously been dominated by other players with much more expensive solutions," said Jeff Rosica, Executive Vice President of Grass Valley. "Alfacam has been a long-time customer of Grass Valley cameras and production switchers, but this is the first significant order for slow-motion replay systems to cover live sports. We believe Alfacam, as the premiere production services company in the region, clearly understands that the lower cost and ease of use associated with our systems will help their business continue to be even more successful."
