Local Stations Continue to Convert their Studio Productions to Grass Valley Automated Production Technology

Las Vegas (National Association of Broadcasters Convention – Booth# SL106) April 14, 2012 — As local television stations across the country continue to seek new business models by implementing cost-effective workflows, they continue to turn to Grass Valley™ for the right solutions. As part of an ongoing trend throughout the industry, small-to-mid-sized stations are increasingly upgrading to a file-based infrastructure built around the Grass Valley Ignite™ fully automated production system, which allows one or two operators to run and entire newscast.

Among the latest stations to migrate their productions to Ignite is WPSD, the NBC affiliate in Paducah, KY (owned by PAXTON Media Group). WPSD has revamped its studio operations, production infrastructure, and on-air image with an Ignite system, HDC robotic cameras, Grass Valley K2-based storage area network (SAN), and a Grass Valley Trinix™ NXT router with the new multiviewer option.

The K2 SAN at WPSD is being used for the handling of syndicated programs and incoming news feeds, as well as for playout operations. WPSD's Ignite system will be on-air at the end of May.

"Grass Valley offers the right balance of efficiency and system reliability that local stations need to improve their on-air look while keeping costs under control," said Jeff Rosica, Executive Vice President of Grass Valley. "The economic realities of today's world require a rethinking of how local news and other studio programming is produced, presented, and distributed. As our business continues to grow, it's clear we have the right solutions to help stations and station groups achieve their financial and technical goals."

The Grass Valley Ignite system allows users to choose how much of the news production process they want to automate and when, by simply adding automation modules as needed. It also lets them use the switcher effects they've already built—such as E-MEMs, Macros, Timelines—and independently recall Local M/E or Master E-MEM levels with direct control of transition, bus routes, and partitions. It works seamlessly with the Grass Valley Kalypso™, Kayak™, Karrera™, and Kayenne™ HD video production switchers.
