Grass Valley Demonstrates Latest HD Technology at Broadcast & Cable 2009

Paris, France/Nevada City, Calif., August 13, 2009 (BROADCAST & CABLE 2009, August 26-28, 2009 Booth #88) — At the Broadcast and Cable convention in Sao Paulo, Brazil, attendees will receive hands-on demonstrations of the latest Grass Valley™ products and systems designed for developing reliable, file-based workflows that increase productivity and provide a fast return on investment. Many of these products, which have already been showcased during the recent Grass Valley- sponsored roadshows in Brazil, will be seen for the first time at a major industry trade show in South America.

In addition, key company employees will present technical papers at the show conferences. Ray Baldock, Grass Valley's Vice President of Marketing and Technology, will present on August 25 a paper entitled "Super-Performance 3 Gb/s in a Practical Application" while Mark Bishop, Engineering Manager for the MediaFUSE® Automated Content Repurposing & Multi-Distribution System, will host a presentation focusing on "Automated HD News Production and Content Repurposing."

On the exhibit show floor, Grass Valley will target a number of key areas for HD production and distribution, including:

Multiformat HD Cameras

Grass Valley's comprehensive line of multi-format HD cameras will be represented on the exhibit booth with the display of the high-end LDK 8000 Elite, the economical LDK 3000, Infinity™ Digital Media Camcorder—in tandem with the Digital Media Recorder, and the HDC Robotic Camera. The recently introduced LDK 3000 camera supports 1080i50/60 and 720p50/60 HD production via three 2/3-inch, 2.4 million pixel CMOS imagers specially developed for broadcast applications.

HD Production Switchers

The popular Kayak HD switcher will be demonstrated live in the exhibit booth with a new Grass Valley Kayenne™ XL control panel. The Kayenne XL Package carries forward all of the most powerful Kayak HD features, with many innovations that maintain Grass Valley's legacy of leadership in switcher design.

Control Room / Production Automation

The latest version of the Ignite™ Control Room Automation system will be shown by way of a simulator that demonstrates how Ignite can automate the live production environment from pre-production to production to disbursement to the Internet/Mobile devices with the MediaFUSE® option. Ignite is the leading production automation solution that has brought more than a million hours of live, dynamic programming to air, while significantly reducing the cost of producing content.

HD Editing

The latest version of Grass Valley Aurora™ (v6.5) HD editing software will be demonstrated as a file-based workflow, where content is accessible from a Grass Valley K2 storage area network (SAN). Within Aurora 6.5 there is new integration with the Grass Valley K2 media servers and improved workflow for Final Cut Pro users.

HD Master Control

Playout systems on hand will include the powerful Grass Valley Maestro™ branding and master control system, which provides the most effective, flexible, and reliable way to deliver and brand TV channels.

HD Replay System

On display will be a live demonstration of the new Grass Valley K2 Dyno™, an easy-to-use instant replay and highlight generation system for standard- and high-definition (SD and HD) production. It consists of the K2 Dyno control panel and the Grass Valley K2 Summit™ HD production client and is ideal for live events such as sports productions and reality TV programs produced in regional mobile production vehicles, stadiums and arenas, and in university sports facilities. The K2 Summit features rugged construction, an easy-to-service chassis, and dual power supplies in a 2 RU frame.

Video Compression

For high-quality MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 video compression, Grass Valley's line of ViBE encoders—which includes the latest in MPEG-4/MPEG-2 encoding technology and are helping program distributors save bandwidth and deliver more channels—will be on display. This includes the ViBE EM2000/3000 SD and HD encoders.

MPEG-4 Content Delivery

Grass Valley will show the latest version of its MEDIAEDGE® digital signage and on-demand content delivery platform, with new support for the H.264 MPEG-4 compression standard. This enables the MEDIAEDGE4 platform to store and distribute more high-definition (HD) content from a single server than it could previously. In addition, a new HDMI output on the system's set top player allows it to display HD images on more screens than ever before.
