The Grass Valley™ EDIUS® 3D Preview Version is a special version of EDIUS that supports 3D editing. We understand that not everyone's current workflow includes 3D, so we have made this software available as a separate 30-day trial version.
The EDIUS 3D Preview Version will be updated regularly—at least monthly—through the end of March 2012. Users will be able to load newer versions over older versions and enjoy another 30 day trial. All feedback concerning the operation of EDIUS 3D Preview Version should be sent to EDIUS3DPreview@grassvalley.com.
New 3D editing features include: native support for 3D video clips captured with the most popular 3D cameras (including Panasonic, Sony, and JVC), easy clip pairing for synching left-eye/right-eye clips, plus an array of tools on the editing timeline that make 3D adjustments quick and easy (with no transcoding necessary). Functions available in 2D are also supported in 3D, such as real-time color correction, keying, transitions, and multicam editing.
The Grass Valley STORM™ 3G and STORM 3G Elite editing platforms are both supported via the EDIUS timeline with stereoscopic 3D I/O through a single 3G SDI source and/or dual 3G SDI signals. In addition, HDSPARK™, HDSPARK Pro, HDSTORM™, HDSTORM PLUS, as well STORM Mobile all support side-by-side and top/bottom monitoring output.
Grass Valley has also included tight integration with its K2 media servers, where its K2 ChannelFlex™ technology (a software application within Grass Valley's AppCenter Elite software suite) enables all K2 Summit™ and K2 Solo™ servers to be expanded from handling four SD/HD video streams to up to eight streams in specific applications such as super slo-mo, multicamera recording, and 3D production.
In fact, with a simple software upgrade, every K2 Summit production client and K2 Solo HD/SD server can now be used as a 3D production server for 3D recording or replay, a 2X or 3X super slo-mo recording device, or as a server for recording from 2-6 simultaneous camera angles with at least one channel for playback.
The Grass Valley™ EDIUS® 3D Preview Version is a special version of EDIUS that supports true stereoscopic 3D editing. It is available as a separate 30-day trial version.
Why have you made this available as a separate version?
While 3D production is an exciting new development, it is still some way off from being mainstream. We want customers to understand that EDIUS continues to be developed in many new directions, not just 3D, but if they would like to use some of these new features now, they do not need to wait until a major revision of the software.
Can I use the EDIUS 3D Preview Version on the same PC as my main EDIUS installation?
Yes, provided you install the latest version of EDIUS (6.06) again, after you have installed the EDIUS 3D Preview Version. We strongly recommend installing the EDIUS 3D Preview Version on a separate PC, but for STORM™ 3G and STORM 3G Elite users (see below) we understand that this might not be practical.
Can I use the EDIUS 3D Preview Version on the same PC as the EDIUS 6.06 Trial Version?
Yes, provided you install the EDIUS 6.06 Trial Version after you have installed the EDIUS 3D Preview Version. The same also applies to EDIUS Neo 3 Trial Version.
How often will the EDIUS 3D Preview Version be updated?
At least monthly. Users will be able to load newer versions over older versions and enjoy another 30 days trial.
How long will the preview period last?
We will keep supplying new builds until the end of March 2012. The preview period will run for 30 days once the last Preview Version is installed.
Where should I send bug reports and suggestions for workflow improvements?
All feedback should be sent to EDIUS3DPreview@grassvalley.com.
Does the EDIUS 3D Preview Version support any Grass Valley hardware?
Yes. Both the STORM 3G and STORM 3G Elite editing platforms are supported via the EDIUS timeline with stereoscopic 3D I/O through a single 3G SDI source and/or dual 3G SDI signals.
In addition HDSPARK™, HDSPARK Pro, HDSTORM™, HDSTORM PLUS, as well STORM Mobile all support side-by-side and top/bottom monitoring output.
What file formats are automatically recognized on import?
3DA1 (Panasonic), 3DP2 (Panasonic), and MVC (Sony, Panasonic, and JVC).
What file formats are supported for 3D export?
EDIUS 3D Preview Version supports all of the same file formats as the current regular EDIUS version (6.06). When exporting, you can choose from different 3D formats including side-by-side, top/bottom, anaglyph, and even right and/or left eye separation. MVC H.264 file export is also supported.
Does EDIUS 3D Preview Version export 3D video to Blu-ray including 3D menus?
No. At this stage, the EDIUS 3D Preview Version does not support direct burning to Blu-ray.
Can I use the Bonus Software that is supplied with the full version of EDIUS 6 with this preview?
No, unfortunately these will NOT work with the EDIUS 3D Preview Version. We are preparing new SDKs for our third-party vendors and will advise when this situation changes.
