Workflow Diagram - Click to Enlarge

This diagram illustrates the system architecture and workflow for reliable content distribution across a remotely programmed and monitored digital signage network. Using Grass Valley™ MEDIAEDGE® Digital Signage technology, content can be updated at any time from any location on a dedicated network of point-of-sale or corporate locations. Each network can be configured to handle standard– or high-definition digital content, or a combination of both.

On the far left, the main headquarters or content creation location for the network includes a PC workstation running Grass Valley MEDIAEDGE Display Content Manager software. This is tightly linked to a Grass Valley MEDIAEDGE file transfer protocol (FTP) server, which stores content as digital files and sends it to a series of edge display devices at the various locations on the network.

The workstation and the server then leverage a wide area network to notify each location when new content is arriving and uploads it to a FTP site or directly to an individual location for display.

On the right side of the diagram are two sample locations, Site A and Site B, which represents separate networks where content is to be received and displayed. Content can also be shared between sites.

At Site A or B (or both), a Grass Valley MEDIAEDGE server receives content and stores it automatically, from here content is streamed via Internet Protocol (IP) signal to individual set-top boxes for decoding and display on programmable flat screen monitors. The same content can be simultaneously displayed at a variety of point-of-sale sites within a commercial facility, or the digital signage network can be used to display different content at different locations within a facility.
