MONTREAL, CANADA – April 13, 2026 – Grass Valley is expanding its partnership with Studio Berlin to supply a new generation of camera systems that will upgrade the German media company’s cinematic live production capabilities while building on its existing infrastructure.
The deployment includes 12 LDX 135 UHD/HDR camera systems alongside 12 LDX 180 Super 35mm cinematic cameras, including two compact LDX C180 units. The systems have already been delivered to Studio Berlin by the end of March and are now being integrated into its current production setup.
Based in Berlin-Adlershof, Studio Berlin is one of Germany’s leading television and media production service providers, delivering studio, OB and post-production services for broadcasters, streaming platforms and production companies. A long-standing Grass Valley customer, the company has worked with its camera technology for decades. This latest investment extends that relationship, introducing cinematic capture while maintaining continuity with its established LDX workflows.
The new systems allow production teams to move between broadcast and cinematic formats within the same environment. Cameras can be mixed on a single production, with shared XCUs, viewfinders, shading and accessories ensuring a consistent operating model for crews.
“We wanted to extend our production capabilities with a new generation of cameras that support cinematic live workflows while staying aligned with our existing setup,” explained Matthias Alexandru, CTO of Studio Berlin. “The combination of LDX 135 and LDX 180 systems gives us ultimate flexibility in upgrading to a cinematic live production environment without changing how our teams operate day to day. The connectivity flexibility of Grass Valley’s cameras to work in traditional XCU environments as well as our distributed studio campus camera network (DirectIP) or natively in SMPTE 2110, and the ability to switch between these in a matter of seconds without any additional hardware, makes these cameras an essential part of our production environment.” The deployment also includes HPE-300 hybrid power supplies, supporting Layer 2 / Layer 3 connectivity with SMPTE 2110, with optional JPEG XS support directly from the camera heads.

MediaHub consolidates media logistics, ingest and asset management into a single, flexible solution to support over 400 channels globally
MONTREAL, CANADA – April 8, 2026 – Grass Valley today announced the successful deployment of its Framelight X content management, media logistics and workflow orchestration solution at MediaHub Australia, a leading multi-client media, playout, and distribution provider. Native to AMPP, Framelight X enables MediaHub to unify previously fragmented workflows into a single, highly configurable environment.
A long-standing Grass Valley partner, MediaHub has worked with the company since the launch of its facility. Today, it delivers more than 400 channels across Australia and international markets, supporting a wide range of broadcasters and content owners.
As part of its transformation strategy, MediaHub set out to replace multiple systems used for media logistics, ingest and asset management with a single integrated solution. The objective was to retain the efficiency of highly customized workflows while reducing complexity and enabling greater operational control.
Framelight X was selected for its scalability, hybrid deployment capabilities and ability to support self-service customization. The deployment includes core Framelight X capabilities, like Elastic Record for line ingest, scheduling tools, dashboards and a workflow engine that drives media logistics and automation across the operation.

If you spend time in master control, you know most issues are not major failures. They are small misalignments. A timing difference. A late change that doesn’t carry across. Something that looks minor but ends up on air.
Playout is where those things are either managed or exposed.

A related change is visible in how resilience is being approached. It is no longer treated as something separate from the main operation.
Asharq News took a different approach, implementing a cloud-based disaster recovery solution on AMPP using Playout X and Framelight X. Delivered as a fully hosted SaaS deployment, the system allows them to maintain continuity without reliance on dedicated on-premises infrastructure.

Leading European outside broadcast specialist TVM carries out major refurbishment of OB3 truck with Grass Valley Sirius 800 SDI Router
MONTREAL, CANADA – January 27, 2026 – Grass Valley has announced that Television Mobiles Ltd. (TVM), one of Europe’s leading independent outside broadcast providers, has carried out a major refurbishment of its mid-sized OB3 unit, with Grass Valley’s Sirius 800 SDI Router at the heart of its routing backbone. The investment supports TVM’s continued focus on reliable, high-capacity SDI workflows for live sports and events and remodels the truck’s core routing infrastructure.
Headquartered in Ireland, TVM delivers outside broadcast services across a broad production portfolio, including domestic coverage of GAA (hurling and Gaelic football), English Premier League football and major international events such as the Paris 2024 Olympics, where the company’s fleet supported the swimming coverage.
The OB3 refurbishment required a complete rebuild of the truck, central to which was a full routing upgrade. TVM sought a modern SDI platform that would support existing operational workflows while fitting within the physical constraints of a compact but high-capacity OB unit. With established reliability, flexibility and high performance in fast-turnaround environments, the Sirius 800 SDI was identified as the ideal solution.

The Sirius 800 SDI serves as the central routing backbone for OB3, providing a stable SDI infrastructure that integrates seamlessly with TVM’s existing Grass Valley equipment. The compact footprint of the truck required detailed planning to ensure the router and associated cabling could be integrated efficiently, with Grass Valley and TVM working together to finalize layout, commissioning and testing within a compressed delivery window. Despite the challenges, the truck successfully returned to service on schedule for TG4’s football coverage at the start of the GAA season.

If you took me to a Newsroom 20 years ago and told me I’d be genuinely excited about a web editor, I wouldn’t have believed you. Back then, a broadcast web editor was smoke and mirrors. We used to describe a light-weight edit as ‘my first editor’ to be used only for very basic needs or by very technically-challenged colleagues. And it was most definitely ‘cuts only’.
Which is why Framelight X’s web editor still feels like a meaningful and surprising breakthrough. A good surprise which in live TX environments is the welcome kind. The kind you stumble on and immediately think, “where was this when I needed it? It can radically change the way we work”
What really stands out to me is how capable it is. It’s not pretending to be a finishing tool, it actually is one. Proper DVEs, blurs, keys, fills, captions, multiple audio channels… all running smoothly in a browser. I’ve used it on the patchiest wifi and it still does the job. The contrast with navigating cumbersome remote desktop connections and round-trips to a Craft Editor is remarkable.
The best part, though, is how simple it is for the user. Not simple as in limited, but simple as in “you don’t need to think about it.” Drag, drop, adjust, move on. Publish to multiple destinations and platforms in one transaction. Job done.

The clever engineering is working hard underneath, but the surface stays refined. When I was consulting, that’s what I always wanted: something versatile and powerful. Something that didn’t feel like hard work and users couldn’t break.
And that makes a difference, the safety net. Because the templates and settings are consistent, everyone stays inside the house style without needing someone looking over their shoulder. Whilst it enables users to edit like they mean it; to create complex edits with several layers of effects and audio it can also act – for some – like ten pin bowling with the bumpers up. You’re free to get on with it, and the system keeps things – and users – quietly on track.
What does this change in the newsroom? Pace. Journalists and producers can finish content themselves without waiting around, and craft editors get to focus on the more detailed or premium creative work instead of being constantly interrupted for tiny fixes. It just smooths everything out. There’s a sense of content flow that didn’t really exist before.

Content moves faster today than it ever has. News, sport, digital, social … everything shifts by the hour. And somehow, Framelight X has grown up in step with that. It’s not the first gen newcomer anymore; it’s a genuinely solid part of the workflow. The maturity shows.
I keep coming back to this concept of a best kept secret that needs to be blown wide open. Simply because most people still expect a web editor to be basic, and this one isn’t. Not even close. It’s become the tool I wish I’d had years ago, because it would have made life a lot easier, and newsrooms probably a lot calmer 😉
And that’s why I’m happy to bang on about it. Not because it’s my job, but because I know exactly how much difference it can make.

Some projects feel monumental from the moment the first phone call comes in. When BCE, the host broadcaster appointed to coordinate the national coverage, asked us to take on the technical realization of Luxembourg’s 2025 succession weekend, I knew immediately this would be unlike anything we had done in the country before. RTL Luxembourg committed to airing the entire weekend live, and the expectations were high, not only because of the importance of the event, but because transitions of power here are so rare that almost no one gets a second chance to refine the process.
Working in Luxembourg always feels a bit personal for me. I grew up here, I speak the language, and I still remember my role as a young vision technician during the previous succession twenty-five years ago. Standing now on the other side of the glass, responsible for the full technical architecture, gave this project a very particular weight.
Building a City-Wide Remote Production
The planning started about two and a half months before the ceremony. Since the productions we do in Luxembourg often exceed the capacity of local OB units, Skyline is regularly called in when things grow bigger than usual – national football matches, state visits, the Pope’s visit in 2024. But even with that history, this was on another scale entirely.
The core concept was a distributed, fully remote production linking twelve locations across and around Luxembourg City directly to our OB7. OB11 supported one of the larger secondary sites, and four additional Skyline OB trucks were positioned across the country. None of those trucks operated as independent control rooms; they acted essentially as large stageboxes. All video routing, shading, sound mixing, tally, intercom, and decision-making flowed back to the city hub.
That required a network infrastructure that behaved like a single production facility stretched across a country. We deployed around thirty-eight kilometers of fiber, mapped, labeled, and redundantly routed. In Luxembourg’s medieval centre that meant planning cable paths with near surgical precision. Some streets cannot be opened, some facades cannot be touched, and public life must remain functional even on a historic weekend. BCE added another critical safety net with Aviwest 5G links to secure our most vulnerable routes.
For signal transport we relied on Makito X4 encoding units and our own TV Skyline Connect system. Several locations were linked to OB7 and OB11 through Layer-2 tunnels, which allowed us to transport not only images and sound but also intercom, tally, return feeds and control data with complete transparency. At peak times, more than forty-five live cameras and over one hundred audio sources were traveling through that network at once.


Grass Valley equipment formed the backbone of the main production. We deployed a large mix of LDX 150s, LDX 135s, remote block cameras, and several compact systems in places where a traditional camera simply wouldn’t fit. Sixteen wireless cameras, all running Grass Valley heads paired with Domo transmitters, gave us the mobility needed for processions and arrivals. Inside OB7, a Grass Valley Kahuna switcher handled the entire multi-site workflow without a single major hiccup.
Three Days of Live Complexity
The ceremony itself stretched over three days, and from a technical standpoint, each day had its own personality. The palace, parliament, city hall, Celle Cité, the red carpet area, and several reception venues were all active on the first day. Saturday expanded the footprint with locations outside the city, including Grevenmacher, Wiltz, Steinfort and Dudelange, as well as two evening shows. Sunday concluded with the cathedral service, which demanded a quieter but equally precise approach.
Even with more than a hundred live sources feeding into the system, what mattered most was coherence, maintaining a visual and narrative continuity across events that varied drastically in scale, acoustics, and geography. From the director’s seat, the whole country had to feel like a single controlled environment, even though it was in reality twelve small worlds connected by kilometers of fiber.
The team carried the weight of that responsibility. Mika managed the OB7 floor with complete calm, Stefan kept audio balanced across wildly different acoustic environments, and Julian maintained the anchor of our production planning. Alexander, Johannes, Peter, Franziska, and many others ensured that every remote location behaved like an extension of our main facility. Without that consistency, none of the technical architecture would have held together the way it did.

What Stayed With Me
On the morning of the succession, when the first camera chains lit up and the return feeds stabilized, I felt something I rarely feel on large projects: a moment of quiet pride. Not because of the scale – though it was the largest broadcast Luxembourg has ever had – but because everything we had planned so intensely was finally breathing.
For TV Skyline, this project was a technical milestone. For BCE, it was a masterclass in coordination. For RTL, it was a historic weekend of uninterrupted national coverage. For Grass Valley, it was a showcase of what their ecosystem can support when pushed to its limits.
And for me, as someone who witnessed the last succession from inside a small OB van twenty-five years ago, closing this circle meant more than I expected. Technology evolves, workflows evolve, but the feeling of being part of a once-in-a-generation broadcast remains exactly the same.
