Grass Valley and DMC Production Create World-first Full Software Production Facility

Introduction

DMC Production has launched a world-first full end-to-end software-based production facility in Hilversum, Netherlands, powered by Grass Valley AMPP and integrated by Broadcast Solutions. Designed and delivered in just six months, the facility supports multi-room live production, editing, and playout entirely in software. The project represents a new approach to scalable, cost-efficient sports production infrastructure.

Challenge

Tier 1 sports distributor Ziggo Sport required a brand-new production centre built within just six months, completely refurbishing a general-purpose office with a fully operational broadcast facility

The solution needed to reduce infrastructure costs, streamline workflows, and support centralized, remote production models.

Budget constraints and evolving sports production demands required a flexible, future-ready system without traditional hardware complexity.

A new facility for a new workflow

“The project in Hilversum was for Tier 1 sports network Ziggo Sport. The turnaround from signing the contract to going on-air was only six months and in that time we had to create a brand new facility and operation, almost from scratch. We had to completely gut
and refit the building — which was a general purpose office — and build a full production center that also accommodated office space for Ziggo Sport and DMC.”

Solution

DMC deployed a full AMPP-based software production environment running on on-premises COTS compute with a SMPTE ST 2110 backbone.

The facility includes 15 control rooms, 15 edit suites, 11 off-tube rooms, and 10 playout channels: all operating in software.

Working alongside Broadcast Solutions, Grass Valley enabled a unified interface that significantly reduced rack space, infrastructure footprint, and deployment timelines.

End Result

The Hilversum facility delivers centralized remote production workflows across multiple countries using minimal on-site infrastructure. Productions can be managed with reduced crew presence, lower travel costs, and simplified connectivity requirements. The approach has expanded DMC’s ability to serve federations and rights holders with efficient, scalable production models while maintaining broadcast-grade performance.
