An AMPP-Powered Revolution in Live Production for the 2025 Asian Winter Games

Introduction

For the 2025 Asian Winter Games in Harbin, Grass Valley delivered an AMPP-powered live production system supporting Korean broadcaster KBS. The deployment combined AMPP-based SRT decoding, Alchemist X frame rate conversion, and LiveTouch X slow-motion workflows. The system was designed to operate within a complex international signal distribution environment, and enabled efficient, high-quality coverage of a major multisport event.

Challenge

International broadcasters faced signal distribution constraints, with traditional satellite workflows replaced by SRT-based IP transmission routed via Hong Kong and Singapore

KBS required a reliable system to decode, convert, monitor, and manage multiple international feeds while ensuring signal quality, operational efficiency, and seamless integration into its existing broadcast workflows under tight event timelines.

The AMPP Effect

AMPP provided a highly efficient configuration for the broadcast that allowed (KBS operators) to operate using a smaller number of apps compared to legacy system setups.

Solution

Working with SAMA Digital Media Solutions, KBS deployed an on-premise AMPP system built around two AMPP Edge XL nodes.

The configuration supported SRT decoding, Alchemist X conversion, signal delays, HD-SDI routing, multiviewing, and LiveTouch ingest and replay.

The system enabled centralized monitoring, real-time configuration changes, and wireless dashboard access, creating a flexible and scalable production environment.

End Result

The AMPP deployment delivered stable signal processing, high-quality frame rate conversion, and efficient replay workflows throughout the Games. Operators benefited from streamlined app-based control, reduced system complexity, and real-time monitoring tools. The project also validated new approaches to remote and wireless operation, establishing a foundation for future sports production workflows built around IP-based infrastructure.
