Grass Valley and Miami HEAT Collaborate to Power New Age of Sports Production

Introduction

The Miami HEAT NBA professional basketball team, owned by the HEAT Group, has upgraded its production capabilities at the Kaseya Center with a new IP-based broadcast facility powered by Grass Valley. The installation supports in-venue live production, enhanced fan experiences, and scalable workflows. Featuring Native IP LDX 150 cameras and K-Frame switching technology, the project marks a significant transition from legacy HD infrastructure to a modern SMPTE ST 2110 environment.

Challenge

The HEAT Group sought to replace a long-standing 1080i HD control room with a modern IP-based production environment capable of supporting HDR workflows, expanded I/O, and greater creative flexibility.

The system needed to integrate within an ST 2110 media core while meeting demanding NBA production schedules.

A delayed installation window due to a Finals appearance further compressed delivery timelines.

Solution

Grass Valley delivered a production ecosystem centered on K-Frame/Kayenne switching and Native IP LDX 150 cameras within an ST 2110 core.

Professional services included commissioning, training, and event support.

Working alongside integrator Alpha Video, the team deployed a Juniper-based IP fabric and ensured seamless integration with arena systems, enabling flexible I/O scaling and advanced macro-driven show control.

End Result

The upgraded facility now delivers HDR imagery, super-slow-motion replay, and enhanced control of external systems, enabling more dynamic in-arena productions. Operators quickly adapted to the new workflows, adding previously unavailable creative features. The installation has strengthened the fan experience while establishing a scalable foundation for future camera expansion, wireless workflows, and long-term service agreements.
