The Next Revolution in Media and Content Creation

Jamie Duemo, Media and Entertainment Worldwide Strategy Leader, Broadcast at AWS and Andrew Cross, CEO at Grass Valley discussed the current financial challenges facing the media industry and how new technologies such as software-based infrastructure and cloud can help lower long term capital risks for broadcasters and production companies while simultaneously lowering the risk of experimentation with both content creation and viewership reach. Cloud will end up changing the way broadcasters work. Jamie and Andrew describe the platforms that make this work and how they must be designed.

Scale and Flexibility in an IP Mobile Production

Dome Gateway is the newest multi-format capable, all-inclusive, single 53-foot production trailer from Dome Productions.  The Gateway mobile is an all IP infrastructure based on SMPTE 2110. Using an all IP infrastructure allows the Gateway to scale up and down effortlessly to handle any sized multi-format production. By using open standard SMPTE 2110 and Grass Valley Orbit orchestration system to control the IP essences and devices, Dome productions were able to build a fully integrated best of breed mobile unit that includes baseband devices using gateways, a GV K-FRAME XI Production Switcher and host of gear from multiple vendors.

A common platform for live media production

As demand for content increases and profits become diluted across multiple delivery platforms, live production needs solutions that allow people to collaborate. Cloud based technologies create an opportunity not only for production teams to work together but for vendors to develop to a common platform simplifying integration.

By joining the Grass Valley Media Universe and leveraging Grass Valley's investment in production technology, Telos Alliance has significantly sped up their delivery of a SaaS model intercom system and integrated it directly with GV's Agile Media Processing Platform.

Working together on a common platform not only benefits vendors by simplifying the development of a cloud offering, it benefits customers by allowing them to more easily integrate technology from multiple vendors, have their operators learn and master a single user experience, as well as centralize the purchase, billing and usage data of their entire production chain.
