Grass Valley Debuts iTX Appliance 2+, Supporting 4K UHD at IBC 2017

iTX Appliance 2+ is the newest addition to powerful, scalable playout solution

MONTREAL, September 14, 2017 — The nature of content has changed dramatically over the past decade—digital, social media, video on-demand (VOD) and more have ushered in a new era of opportunities and challenges for broadcasters looking to effectively create and monetize content on every available channel. Grass Valley, a Belden Brand, helps broadcasters adapt to their evolving content needs with the iTX playout solution.

The drive for high-quality production for sports and premium events has seen a sharp increase in demand for UHD playout. To meet this need, the new iTX Appliance 2+ model has been added to the range.

"For the past ten years, iTX has led the content delivery industry, expanding to meet the needs of each new channel along with more traditional channels, both linear and non-linear," said Raed Al Tikriti, vice president, content delivery. "With the new Appliance 2+ model, Grass Valley customers can design a solution capable of SD/HD and UHD channels in both square division and 2SI."

Coupled with ITX's ability to play in excess of 25 file formats on the same playlist including the recently added Apple ProRes, broadcasters have the flexibility to launch services on a single platform just by adding a software license.

As part of the latest iTX 2.12 software version, the powerful Vertigo graphics option is now available in UHD, and the popular secondary record option (which allows live events to be captured without the need for a separate record port) has been upgraded to capture UHD files.

"In the ever-changing world of content delivery, it's critical that solutions are built to adapt and grow efficiently with new channels," said Tikriti. "In order to get high-quality content to viewers on the right channel at the right time, broadcasters rely on playout platforms that can manage and quickly deliver content in both current and future formats. The extensive range of iTX playout features offers ultimate format flexibility."

In addition to the wide range of format options available on the iTX Application 2+, Grass Valley offers solutions for delivering content to all platforms, linear or non-linear and for multiple deployment models, including on-premise, virtualized, private or public data center options.

Grass Valley is demonstrating its content delivery solutions at IBC on stand 1.D11.
