NVP Selects Grass Valley's LDX Series Camera for New OB Truck

20 LDX 86N WorldCam cameras and eight LDX 82 Première cameras

MONTREAL, September 14, 2017 — Grass Valley, a Belden Brand, has announced that NVP, the Italian broadcast production company, selected 20 Grass Valley LDX 86N WorldCam cameras and eight LDX 82 Première HD/3G cameras for its new 4K UHD outside broadcasting (OB) truck, which puts NVP at the forefront of live production in Europe.

Grass Valley worked together with system integrator and long-time channel partner Video Progetti, which designed the truck to support NVP's OB production services to encompass SD/HD/3G/4K UHD as well as standard dynamic range (SDR) and high dynamic range (HDR) content simultaneously. With Grass Valley's LDX Series cameras and XCU base stations, NVP can now manage any type of production, host signals and support national integration all from two dedicated video and audio control rooms.

"We selected the camera series from Grass Valley because they offered the most technologically advanced quality for multiple formats with an upgrade path to 4K UHD and HDR, and it was all within our budget constraints. Grass Valley's live production solution has drastically improved our workflow," commented Natalino Pintabona, founder, owner and general manager at NVP.

The cameras will be used for the most challenging productions all over Europe in a wide variety of deployments for sports and music, spanning Italy's Series A football league matches (produced in 4K UHD), concert performances, musical events and high-profile conferences. At the G7 summit in Taormina, NVP acted as the host broadcasting company and more recently NVP produced a UHD HDR test production using the LDX 86N cameras in collaboration with SKY Italia for the top football league match, traditionally held in Villar Perosa (Turin).

"At Video Progetti we welcomed the challenge of building the OB truck with all the latest technologies, which include Grass Valley's LDX Series cameras to suit NVP's needs," stated Carlo Struzzi, CEO of Video Progetti. "Today this OB truck is used for the most difficult productions all around the world and it is recognized as a model of technical and operational efficiency."

The LDX 86N WorldCam Series camera brings NVP productions to the next level with traditional HD/3G acquisition, offering a great viewer experience for all its live productions. The cameras can be upgraded directly to native 4K UHD as well as 3X HD or 6X HD/3X 3G, including 15 F-stops of high dynamic range (HDR) in single-speed operation for a daily, weekly or perpetual time frame by using the unique Grass Valley eLicensing system. The NVP OB 4 truck combines the LDX 86N WorldCam with the LDX 82 Première camera which can switch between 1080i and 720p, and features all the processing features of the LDX 86 Series including WCG (wide color gamut) operation and the upgrade path to native HDR operation.

"We are very pleased NVP selected Grass Valley camera solutions for its new OB Van. The LDX cameras with their in-house developed Xensium CMOS imagers combined with an efficient signal processing and extremely flexible transmission solutions will enable NVP to greatly improve quality, creativity and operational efficiency," noted Jan-Pieter van Welsem, vice president sales, EMEA, Grass Valley.
